Dr. Rolf D. Baldus

Dr. Rolf D. Baldus is an economist, hunter, writer, and conservationist. Rolf is actively involved in global conservation and hunting issues through the International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC), where he has performed many tasks, including being the adviser to the president and the head of the Tropical Game Commission. In addition, he occasionally serves in an advisory capacity to wildlife administrations in Africa and Central Asia. 


Rolf also managed a family enterprise for ten years, worked at a university, and for several decades served in various capacities at the German Chancellery and the Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. For thirteen years he assisted the chief warden of the Selous Game Reserve and supported the Tanzania Wildlife Authority under a government agreement.


Rolf regularly goes on international hunting safaris, and he also manages a hunting area near his home where he practices community forestry. His main professional interests continue to be sustainable hunting as a tool for wildlife conservation and community-based, natural-resources management.


Rolf has written several books, which have been translated into English from the original German, as well as numerous articles about hunting and conservation. Rolf resides near Bonn, Germany,
